Me too! I have already received a lot of helpful advice. Thank you!

Roll away nests stop this problem....

Yes, but the problem with that is that silkies can't fly, so I wouldn't want them to fall and hurt themselves. Also, with the set-up I have, roll-away boxes are unfortunately not a option anyways.

Thank you for your advice! :)

Hi, I'm a newbie too, but a friend had this problem as well. He found it was because the chickens were hungry! They only liked part of the mixed feed he was giving, so once they'd finished that part, they decided they'd rather eat eggs than the rest of the feed. The blown-egg with mustard helped as well as putting a wooden egg in and adding new interest to the coop/run to keep them from getting bored.

My silkies are all quite meaty! :'-D I assure you that they are eating well. They definitely eat all parts of their feed, but I appreciate the idea. I will keep that in mind just in case.

I like the idea of keeping them busy! :) I will see if I can get them something new like toys to mess around with or something.

Also, I am going to adjust their diet so that they are definitely getting enough protein. I was thinking that maybe this is part of the problem.

Thanks again for your response! I really do appreciate it. :)

Calcium too!. I take my old eggs shells, dry them well and powderize in the blender into a fine dust, and mix it in with wet food. I've only ever lost one egg.

Good idea! I give mine oyster shells. I will definitely try powderizing some egg shells and mixing it into the feed. Thank you! :)
