I'm not sure if you are mocking me but if I wasn't sure that we didn't have rats then I wouldn't have said it. If you lived here, you would've understood. It's possible, trust me.

Joking. Good luck with your problem.

I know they are fertile, she's been the one my roo has satisfied his lusts on these last 2 months! I don't know how to candle, I've thought about it but I have no idea how/what to look for!

I used a really strong LED flashlight. There are many threads on here that show you easy ways. I also cut a hole in cardboard for the egg to rest in (without falling through) and looked 'into' it using a bare lightbulb. The flashlight worked much better. I found out my eggs were not developing. The heat stopped that. On a hatching page, a lady wrote that eggs have to stay at 99 - 100 degrees, and at 105, your eggs are goners. Mine were in 120 degrees without the hen, so.... broody hen - 0, summer heat - 1.

Well, mine have probably not developed then either,

it's been 100-105 here for the last 2 weeks, a typical heatwave for over here. You think I should throw them out soon and break her broodiness? She's already 3 days late.

Just as an FYI- I have had eggs hatch on day 25/26 (and I know exactly when she started setting both times), so they can be later than day 21.

THe other thing to note is that soetimes the broody will eat the egg, either because she can "tell" it's a dud, or she just does. I have had some that get a hole in them, that they will then eat and others that they just do for whatever reason. Make sure that she has plenty of protein available to her, that setting, esp. in this heat, is hard work

I'll wait a little bit longer, but it has been hot hot hot these last couple weeks, in the shade it was like 103 can you imagine what it must have been in that chicken house???? I'm starting to wonder if the eggs have developed, maybe it really just was too hot. Yeah, she has plenty of protein!

No, I'd definitely candle them. If they look dark inside, they may be good to go. Giver her a few days. A lot of people here seem to have experience with late eggs, so waiting till the 25th or 26th day wouldn't be too bad. I've read a lot of posts by people who thought they had duds, cracked them open, and were horrified to find baby chicks that then died. Don't let THAT happen to you!

I was planning on waiting a couple days longer, don't worry

I've read those stories too and I've been told quite frequently that Mother Nature takes a longer then 21 days sometimes. I'll candle them when she gets off the nest. So if its dark inside and I can't really see much, chances are that there is a chickie inside? and if I can see through it, I might as well get rid of them, correct?

I would think so. There are lots of websites with photos of duds and you can see rings or nothingness...
