I went to check on my eggs today and I saw that they had started pipping! They were not supposed to go into lockdown until tomorrow so the automatic egg tuner was still on and now a few of the eggs are pipping on the bottom. Should I quickly reach in and turn them?? HELP! This is my first time incubating eggs and I'm freaking out!!! Thank you!

If you were not ready for lockdown, you need to get the humidity up quick. As far as helping the chicks, you should give them time to see how far along they can get on their own (even with a pip, your still 12 - 24 hours from a hatched chick). The rule of thumb I've seem and experienced is that trying to help a chick hatch isn't always good for the chick and may cause issues with the other chicks trying to hatch. It's really sad to save a chick and lose the rest do to dried membrane.

If you can, take the incubator into a steamy bathroom.

Take the eggs out of the turner, Put them on the bottom of the incubator

in a place where you can see the pips. It will not hurt them to be turned.

Once your done you could put a wet sponge in the 'bator if the humidity

gets low. Do not help. It can take up to 48

hours for a chick to hatch after making a pip. So please do not rush. Please
know that it is extremely dangerous to 'help' a chick out of it's shell. You can
actually end up killing the chick trying to save it.

Get the humidity up then leave them alone. I've only hatched a few times but I've seen them successfully hatch from every side now...top, bottom, and side. I'm the patient sort, letting them take their time to do what needs done to hatch. Once you start moving them, opening the bator, you never know if you hurt or harmed.

Sending good hatch vibes!!!
