Here is my last chick to hatch. He was pipped for 2 days and finaly I helped him finish hatching about 12 hours ago. He has still attached to him the yoke sac which is bloody looking and drying out because the hiumidity in the bator is going down now... What should I do? Should I up the humidity again and get his yoke sac moist??? What should I do about the yoke sac still being attached to inside the egg??? Please help him!!!!!!

Leave it alone. This is why you shouldn't help chicks hatch. You can't see that it needed more time in the shell to finish absorbing the yolk. If the chick becomes active and the membrane is dry clip it down at the shell end so it won't drag it around and cause injury. From the looks of the chick laying there in the photo like that it may not make it.

I have high hopes for him... He does move around but has not tried walking yet. He is already stronger looking then he was last night... I was thinking about maybe clipping the yoke from the egg and wrapping him in a warm moist washcloth so he can rest and have some moisture on his yoke sac... What do you think??? Also the hunidity is now down because all the water is gone... Should I up it or just let the yoke sac dry out like it is???

You will be creating a warm moist environment for bacteria to begin to grow. It could also cause the navel site to rupture.

You want the yolk membrane to dry out so it can fall off.

Don't wet it.

Good luck.

Got it... Thanks... I just put some neosporin on it and left him in the bator. It is very small and just looks like a small umbilical cord... Thanks for your help.

same thing hapened to me yesterday. it fell of and he is in the bator runing around like a crazy baby chicken!!

I have 3 eggs under a broody right now so I won't be able to do ANYTHING when they go to hatch.

I'm not sure I will be able to handle it!!!!!!
My mamma girl loves me so I don't think she'll mind if I just watch.

If it helps, I have had a lot of chicks with the yolk/umbilical cord protruding hatch out themselves or with assistance, and each one has made it just fine in a day or so. Just don't let it catch on things or let the other chicks pick it.
