HELP!Favorite ROOSTER had fight, BADLY INJURED Graphic Picture Warning

Thankyou for all the advice and suggestions I really appreciate it!

I'm really worried about his neck. He just managed to turn him self around but, his neck is still in that same akward, scary position.

Sorry, I don't have anyshavings

Oh yeah, and I found a poo before, wasn't much of it at all, mainly white, like hummus...

I don't have any wound cleaner so I'll do the warm soapy water.
I tried cleaning him with just water at the start and i think it must've stung coz he kep jerking up and plus it wasn't working well.

Yeah; it will sting. But it's important to get those wounds cleaned so they can heal properly. You can also use some paper towels for his bum.

Has he moved his feet at all? Don't try to move his neck just yet--does he react at all when you touch it? If he has moved his feet then we know that he's not paralyzed and hasn't suffered any spinal cord damage. If he hasn't moved his footsies, then you can try to poke them and see if he reacts.

I don't know what you have on hand, but you need to clean his wounds.
Povidone Iodine 1% or a saline solution (for washing out human eyes).

Do not use an iodine sugical scrub, it has detergent in it.

I don't know about Neosporin, I've not used it on chickens. I keep Nolvason Antiseptic Ointment on hand.
An antiseptic ointment is to keep infection from setting in.

If you have any pedialyte, give him some with an eye dropper if you need to. If you don't, you can give him a little sugar water as suggested earlier.

You can dissolve 1 1/2 aspirin (5 grain) in a quart of water & give him some of that for the pain.

Keep him in a dark quiet place. Doesn't have to be in total darkness, just not well lit. A box will work, cover most of it with a towel. he will rest better in a dark place for the night.

Someone else will probably reply with more info for you.
This is about I can tell you to do.

We have had roosters get into it before & they all healed OK.
Some had scars & torn combs & wattles, one lost one eye but other than that, he healed just fine. They are pretty tough.

Good luck with you boy, I hope he gets better quickly.

Yeah, He's moving his feet, I'm trying to clean his wounds with dishwashing detergent and warm water. It must really sting, as he jerks away, jumps back a bit. It looks like he keeps trying to click his neck back, my sister is being sooo annoying she says it looks freaky.

Can't find the heatpack cable...

All I have is normal soap. Don't have anyof those things, not even aspirin. I wish I did. Only thing I have is sugar so I'll do that.

He seems a bit more alive now.

If you can't find the heater cable, just keep him snuggled up warmly. Do your parents or sister wear contact lenses? You could try cleaning out his eyes with some of that. If he has any eye damage, it should heal completely within the next day or so.

It's really good that he's moving his feet! Gently feel along his neck, and if you have to, compare it to the other chickens, but still, don't try to move it. Moving it can cause more damage. See if you can feel anything that's out of place, or any abnormal heat or swelling in his neck.

My sister used to wear contact lenses, but she didn't like them and she chucked ou t the cleansing solution coz it expired, so yeah... Ok. My other chickens are probably in the tree now, I'll go find one.

Keeps trying to get it's neck back right now. I've done the sugar thing.

And, um I think there is something differnt with their necks but that could be because the normal chicken was a girl...

This has sorta killed my day... I was planning on doing heaps of homework

i have to get off the computer real soon and have dinner

Sounds good. The contact lens solution is also a disinfectant. I don't know if it stings less or not.

You can check to see if he's had any concussion or something by comparing the size of his pupils in his eye. Then cover one of his eyes for a few seconds, and let the light come in. See how long it takes for his pupil size to return to normal.

Since his neck is at that "freaky" angle; it makes me really worried.

Just make sure he's quiet and calm. After dinner (gee, it's late for that, 11 pm my time!) try to immobilize his neck with two popsicle sticks or pens (with the caps on!) and wrap something around the sticks (put those on the sides of his neck), making him a little neck brace. Try not to use tape as to not pull his feathers out. Some folded paper towels with tape would be OK, as long as it's not touching his feathers.

You can google pictures of people with neck braces, try to immitate that--you shouldn't need to immobilize his head or anything, just make sure it's not too tight and he can breathe.

In the AM, call the vet. Even if you can't bring them in, if they're helpful, they should be able to give you advice over the phone.
