Okay, so my local feed store is having a great chick supply sale and I bought one of those galvanized 12 gallon feeders for my 4 week olds. They out grew the little mason jar feeder with the holes.
Now I am realizing that they will try to sit on the edges of the open top and probably poop in the feed. Any suggestions for a secure lid? I can just put a board on it, but I am affraid they will knock it off when jumping up there.

Can you suspend it off the floor? Just a few inches will discourage your birds from wanting to roost on the edge. If you can can you find something to cover the top opening?

I hung it off the floor and they still jumped up there.
I tried all sorts of plastic container lids and couldn't find the right size. Then I thought of the stack of Frisbees that I have in the barn that I use for feeed dishes for my alpacas.
They fit perfectly! They really didn't like the hot pink one so I tried this green one.
Problem solved.
