Hi-
We are hatching for fun as a quarantine project.

We are on day 22 and our first chick hatched this morning. The chick has a bloody red protrusion by the vent! Is that normal? Does that mean the yolk didn’t absorb completely? What should I do?
The chick is in the incubator now. I am seeing other eggs working to hatch. Will they be okay together? Should I clean the incubator?

I am also doing the same as you but with lots of quails. I think it might help if you sent a photo of the chicks "bloody red protrusion" I think this would help for us to get a better view of it.

It sounds like yolk hasn’t been fully absorbed. Depending on severity I’ve had some absorb it after hatch, some where the rest just fell off and chick was fine and some where chick didn’t make it (These were more severe cases with bleeding). If it’s just a little I wouldn’t worry about it. If there’s a lot I’ve put chicks in cups with paper towel before In the incubator to prevent them from rupturing it. Watch for signs of infection. My suggestion would be to leave it alone until others hatch and then see how it’s doing.
