Help! first time hatching!

I think there probably is some truth to that, though I I have not experienced that here. Note that it does say "might"

. I can tell you that eggs not stored properly, or for longer than three weeks aren't very likely not to hatch. I did an experiment where I set a bunch of peafowl eggs all over three weeks old and only one hatched, but it managed to hatch in 27-28 days.

I don't have a lot of confidence in that, I know the older they get the less likely they are going to hatch but not if they are past the 7 day mark that they would need more time. HUM, I guess we will know because NOW you've got my interest up and I'm going to experiment on that.. SO we will know that answer... LOL

Right now I'm experimenting on how long a duck egg can tolerate being set on a turner in an upright position. I have ALWAYS laid my duck eggs down so this is going to be the first on how well they do. I know they can't make it the entire hatching period because I have tried that on several occasions. but I am wondering how long before they struggle or end up dying when in this upright position. I'm hoping they can hold out until four days before hatching day then I will lay them down but until then, crossing fingers they make it that long.. I have a feeling though the larger they get, the more difficulty it is for them and this could be the reason as to why they do better laying down..

I did, and only one of those eggs hatched. I had already hatched about 30 peachicks, so was in no hurry to set more eggs, but decided to see what happened. Can't remember all of the details, so if you remember me saying something different, that's probably how it went down. Will look for my posts on the subject.

SO wait did you try it on several occasions? or am I getting confused?? because you just said this
"I can tell you that eggs not stored properly, or for longer than three weeks aren't very likely not to hatch" or is that the hatching that you are talking about with storing them for 1 month?? I think I'm confusing myself. LOL

Interesting, was just thinking about setting some in the upright turner in the Janoel.

Well hang tight, I will let you know how mine do, and I'm doing Calls, I have more eggs waiting to be experimented on too. So if these eggs can't make it all the way up to the fourth day until hatching day, I'm gonna try again and start taking them off 7 days before hatching day.. if they don't make it, I will keep doing this until, I know exactly what day they need off that turner and laid down in order to hatch properly..
