Help! first time hatching!

glad to hear things are going ok

why are the ducklings in a cup?
they have exposed yolk and putting them in a cup, helps them absorb, from what I have read and seen it applies pressure not to much pressure to break the yolk and kill them, just enough to help them absorb faster. Did lots of research on exposed yolk and the best way to treat or handle it as well as experimented on my own as to what really worked.

Quote: Good things to to mention! I also like @ozexpat 's suggestion of doing a "proof of concept" hatch first. Probably a good idea for first timers to try easy eggs, like chickens or maybe Guinea fowl. Once one can hatch those, then try duck eggs.

And placing them in a cup was a success... versus, laying them down on the bottom of the bator with the shell still on. Don't get me WRONG, the shell is still on when you place them in the cup.

When I say exposed yolk I mean if you look inside there shell, you see yolk, to me that's exposed because it's no longer covered up

Agree, ducks are a bit more challenging.

Ok I'll give you the story real quick, then I gotta run and I'll be back:

So I had 2 already under the brooder and one had just freed itself, from the start he was causing trouble, rolling other eggs over, trying to peck at some, eventually he got his head stuck inside the shell of one of the other duckies, that ducky kicked himself free leaving the trouble maker running around with an empty shell on his head. I definitely have my hands full!!

I'll update soon! Again thanks to everyone for the help and support!
