Help! first time hatching!

I thought that "dry hatching" meant that eggs are incubated in a range, not that it means remove all water from the incubator. In some cases, like yours, maybe it is appropriate, but for me it's not, 'cause if I were to remove all water from mine, the humidity would drop to 0%.

That's the problem with the term "dry" incubation. Sometimes it is taken too literally. I prefere the term "low humidity incubation". Some people can run dry and still have 25-40%. I only run completely dry if it stays above 25%, if not I add a sponge, but it is still considered dry because of the low humidity status.

Good gravy... we live over here on the wet side of the country! LOL!! No way could I get anywhere close to 0%!

Do you know if those things work? I have not tried that, so how would one get the Room humidity down? without having to purchase a new A/C system which would cost us about $3000 or a Window A/C unit which is about $200 or so?

My next hatching IF I decide to hatch any more ducks is a secret hiding place here at my work. LOL... But I'm debating on trying any more for the year..
Dehumidifier supposedly work to take the humidity out of a room. I know people that have had success using unpopped pop corn and the silcon packets....but then again I've seen people have success with the rice too....lol

My last fall hatch w/the wood pellet stove running I was only getting 16% lol Not 0, but close....lol

OK but still, you guys are stressing 25%. I'm telling you I hatch at 16%, but that doesn't matter, What I'm asking is

How does one get the humidity lower, if it's running 40% and your stressing 25%. Shouldn't matter about 16 or 25% the problem is I can't get it lower. So I was looking for some ideas on how to handle that.

So anyone with any thoughts???

What humidity do you run for lockdown. I've kept my humidity topping at about 38 and letting it drop to about 25. I use pieces of sponges to get a slow decrease over the course of the day. I do this every 12 hours with my temp at a steady 99.5°.

No, it's just two different convos. If 16% works for you that's great, keep going with it. I always say do what works for you regardless of others, but Kathy was asking pertinent questions on personal thoughts of humidity so those were being shared as well.

Lock down is 60-65 we are good at lock down but by then the damage is already done.

Hey Amy - BYC910 said he used something in his that got his to drop, but I can't remember what it was. I know he said the popcorn and/or rice didn't work. Some kind of powder (not talcum powder). I'll see if I can find that.
