Back in March I started my first flock with thirteen chickens. Recently flies have taken over my acre yard. Their horrible!!! I cant even stand to sit outside, let alone have a cook out at the pool =( You can see hundreds hovering over the grass and they fly away as you walk by. I have never had a problem with flies. I let my chickens free range for a few hours before dark every evening. So I am thinking the fly problem has come from having chicken poop all over my yard. Any suggestions on how to get rid and prevent the fly invasion?!!

Flies have been terrible this year!
You need a few of these.
They smell like a rotting corpse but MAN! They work!

Wow! It sounds like you are pretty infested. There are several types of fly repellent methods that u could use. Fly paper, but keep away from where your chickens could get their feathers or other body parts stuck. Fly traps are always a great option...they have an attractant in them and traps/drowns the flies in a secured bag. Kinda gross, but highly effective. I have used them before in my horse barn. It’s amazing how many buggers you get! Thousands!!!! I would try a few of those. You can buy them at any feed store. Good luck! Whatever you do, don’t spray any chemicals where your chickens forage. It can be deadly for them!
Good luck!!!!!

I use the disposable bag fly traps. As Stacey said they smell awful but they work!
I have some bags too.
And just for fun I bought the new ones that are just big yellow sticky hanging things about the size of a large can of tomatoes because DH was complaining about the “death smell”.
Save your money.
Don’t work worth a darn unless the fly is so stupid he crashes into by accident.
