It’s been an emotional day. The one hatched chick is doing well and dried off running around incubator. I had to help 2 and one is drying off and lifts it’s head when I shine light in there but the other I think it’s dead. I have one with a big pip but I’m scared to assist again. 2 eggs not doing anything and one with what seem to be a started pip. Temperature 99.5 and humidity is 70%.
The "dead" chick may be resting. Although it isn't unusual to have chicks die after hatch. Wait 24 hours before helping the other one that is pipped. Great job so far! Good catch on the flooding. Has the chick quieted down any since more chicks were hatched?
I have another almost zipped. Will the one that hatched early this morning be ok in the incubator all night well the other 2 are drying? I don’t want to move it to the brooder by itself but I also don’t want it to get overheated or dehydrated. I’m incubating in a janoel 12.
All is well this morning, moved the 3 to brooder and they are quite and contently snuggled under MHP. I lost 2 of the 4 I assisted (that’s why I don’t like to assist, but I felt this was my fault they were having a difficult time). 2 more eggs in the incubator, one has piped and is chirping.
