hey I need help My hen has a extra large lump on her toe and is limping bad. also just fund one of my hens dead in the hen house and could not find anything wrong.so why did she die also have one hen has hers eyes are shut and has been for a few days.help please

What a terrible litany of troubles..... Froggy, if you can, provide answers to these questions, as it may help people better help you.

How long have you had the hens - how old are they - (specifically the 2 that are ill and still alive as well as the one that died)?
What is their diet?
Are they laying eggs?
Have you wormed them? If so, when and with what?
What is their poop like?
The one with her eyes closed for a few days - that was urgent the first day she was like that, I'm afraid. Does she eat or drink?
What are their living conditions - bedding, changed often? Any dampness, wet stuff in their coop?
Water - how often cleaned out/changed?
Are you able to get your 2 hurt/sick ones that are still alive to an avian vet?

answers

they about a year and ahalf.
I feed the scrach feed and laying pellets also the free range.
yes they are laying.
yes about a month ago.
yes she eats and drinks I clean the coops ever other day or so.
the poop is poop not runny.ever other day the water is changed.
well I am not sure what a avian vet is but no I guess

* o.k., freddy, you've got your hands full here, and I'm thinking you probably ought to re-post later into 2 separate topics. Meanwhile, check the lump on hen #1 to see if it is HOT, like an infection, and push on the lump a little to see if it feels hard like bone or gristle, or is a little squishy. Post the results for that here, all right??

an avian vet is a vet that specializes in birds.

where did you find the dead hen? under the roost? or near the nestbox?

about the hen that has eyes closed..
are the eyes stuck, have crust or mucus?
or is she sleepy?
does she have any breath sounds? (wheezing/rattling/gurgling)
if the eyes are stuck shut..wash with saline eye wash..or just boil some water, let cool, and wipe the eyes..and see what's going on..how they look..
does she get up and move around much?
does she sit in the nestbox a lot?

what did you use to worm them?
what color are the droppings?
does she feel thin?
is the comb pale?

what do you use for bedding?

do you know how to check the crop?
the crop is a little sac near the bottom of the neck, at the top of the breast, slightly on the hen's right..
at roost time, if she has eaten well..it should feel full..
in the morning, recheck to see if it is empty or flat..
also feel for any lumps.

do you have any antibiotics on hand?
any vitamins?

how much scratch do they get compared to layer feed?
do you give crushed oyster shell?

it's very important that you check the lump on the foot on the other hen as dk posted.
she could have Bumblefoot which can be very serious and needs prompt treatment.

I am somewhat new to this chicken raising and i got the wormer for my coop and they free range so no oyster shells
