Help for RIR hen and concerned owner

Glad you joined us. Glad you got vet assistance and Xrays to rule out bone fractures. The open wound sounds minor and should heal. All that is great. Let's move on to what you can do right now to try to help your hen recover.

She may be in delayed shock. This means her glucose may be low, also electrolytes. Take away her water and give her a cup of warm sugar water with a little salt and baking soda added. One teaspoon of sugar, one teaspoon of baking soda and a quarter teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water. Let her work on that all day today.

Next, if you have vitamin E oil capsules, give her one. If you have any B-complex vitamin tablets, give her a half of one. Do that each day until she's better.

None of this will interfere with her meds from the vet.

If one of those wicked Pomeranians, and they're like pit bulls in my view, managed to shake her or bite her on the back, she may have been injured in the spine. Look all over her back skin for signs of bite marks. Often, a chicken survives obvious injuries from a dog attack to die from internal injuries.

Make her warm and comfortable and continue to give her lots of love. We're all hoping with all our might that she pulls through.
