Please help! My ducks got attacked by a fox and one of them is in rough shape. He is still eating and drinking and walking around but, he has a huge chunk of flesh missing. I've cleaned him off and have him separated from the flock. I know he must be in a lot of pain. Is there anything i can do for him or should i just end his suffering..

I see this was from over an hour ago--how's your duck doing? If you haven't already, flush the wound with lots of saline solution. You might find this thread helpful, it has advice for a similar situation. I've been amazed by some of the injuries people on this forum have reported their birds bouncing back from--good luck!

He is still doing okay. I have rinsed with saline and have him in the house for the night. I will check out that thread. Thank you!

I’m currently undergoing a similar situation with my rooster. I wish that I would have flushed the wound initially with peroxide but I didn’t. I did however do the saline and he is still here recovering. I gave him 4 days of pen g injections as well as packing the wound with neosporin 2x a day. I am still doing that. The first few days I wrapped his wound with vet wrap and gauze and a generous slathering of neosporin (his wound is located on his back) but after a few days he got really pissed off about the bandage so it’s been open since a week ago. I also kept a heat lamp on him at night. Aspirin water for the first few days. I fed him scrambled eggs for protein the first few days as well but now he’s back on his usual pellet and no additives in his water.
