I got this sweetie from a breeder. Pretty sure it's a cockerel. About 11 weeks old. But I am most confused by the feathering. His feathers break and seem brittle and he has bald spots. Did I get a Frazzle? If so, is he ok to stay with the flock??

I have been wondering about this girl as well. She came to our home June 5th. She had been locked in a mating cage just her and her rooster friend. He had been picking and pulling her feathers.

She is looking better I have been keeping her in the house. She gets play time outside just before dusk when it starts to cool and I think she is not in danger of sun burn.
Today I cleaned her up and as I blow dried her I noticed bald spots her leg and bottom feathers look like Silkie feathers. Her back and neck like frizzle and her Brest and wings like frazzle I think but I have never seen a frazzle up close before.

The rooster is the one she had been locked up with. I was told she is 4 years old but I don't know what her parents were.

Seems like she was being used to create Frizzled Cochin bantams. It’s great that you got her out of that situation! :highfive:
I think she is a Frazzle but I’m not 100% certain. @oldhenlikesdogs what do you think?

Thank you, she is a sweetheart. She however is done mating for now. I did some reading years ago about frazzled chickens the news for them was not good I remember reading they had brittle feathers and seldom lived very long I want this lady to have a nice long life with all of her feathers. We are calling her Freeta cuz she is free ta grow her feathers back ;)

Yikes, poor girl. It is hard to see feather structure in a black chicken from a picture, so I can't say for sure what she looks to be. I don't think a frazzle, but I can't be definite. She will be gorgeous after the fall molt again. Sometimes I wonder what's wrong with people.

I do too wonder about ppl. I keep thinking God should loose my number sometimes ;)
Right now I have her, her rooster a handicapeable Silkie a duck family of 4 and 3 bottle fed kittens. All since April. We think that is enough right now:fl However,
Going to get a bantam friend for the Silkie tomorrow she has been alone for 4 years and will not do well in my coop. We will build a easy access coop for her and a couple of friends. The one tomorrow was attacked by "something" and has damage to backside and tail. God brings em and we do what we can for them with his help:love

Wow, something is right, I have never seen anything like this before.

I got his feathers wet that is why they look funky. The ladies said they put ointment on him when it happened. Oh he had beautiful tail feathers! I don't know what could cause this. They said something is eating the eggs too. No clue.

Looks like something got a hold of it, otherwise it's from pecking. Hopefully it can heal up. Definitely keep it away from flies.
