Help hatching Silkies in a Brisnea Octagon

x2, I think your humidity was too high for hatching. It should be around 60-65% for hatching.

When I hatched lower I had problems then too and was told to keep it higher.

Brinsea wants it above 65%. I just did a hatch that varied between 65% and 78% and got 8/8 chicks. You should be able to easily tell if it's a drowning issue; the chick pips internally but not externally. If the chick never pips internally, it's not a drowning.

I have hatched more eggs this year than I have ever thought of and I keep the method and madness the same every time. 95-100 degrees and 35-45% humidity once eggs are in the incubator the thing is never opened and at day 18 the egg turner is unplugged. Day 21-22 they all pop out like popcorn all be it a bit messier. I know that doesn't solve your problem but for me I would choose one setup and stick with it through the whole process or at least until they hatch.

Yea they're not pipping at all...One of the ones that i pipped that was alive had pipped internally not externally. I hatched out 9 Large Frame breeds at the same humidity now. So I dunno bad luck I guess...I'll keep the humidity around 65-70%

Humidity % varies according to where you live .... the altitude, not the incubator manufacturer. Check with others that live in your area, and see what they use successfully.

Where I live, I use 35% for incubation, and 60 - 65% for day 18 - 21, never higher or I get sticky chicks. Sticky chicks can not move around in the egg. If you see a pip that does not "zip," (like a zipper around the egg), but the hole keeps getting bigger .... that may be a sticky chick unable to move around.

This has been my experience anyway....
