I would take it to the vet too, at least he can say what the underlying problem is and if it is fixable and if so at what cost....
WORST case sinereo is he can HUMANELY euthanise your bird for you for very cheap (no awful debates on how to go about culling yourself).
My bird just broke her middle toe at the joint (?) She often flies down from her perch and lands in her food pan (owch!) anyway, nothing to be done for my gal except wait for it to heal on its own. So she has been limping around- poor thing. My vet has seen my birds 3 or 4 times and has NEVER even charged me (only for the baytril when I needed it- but never for his time) He's so great!
But I would have had it operated on if it needed it....I take culling seriously and as a last resort.
