Hi,

I'm so glad your kitty is doing better!

Just wanted to pass along a hint a "naturalistic" vet gave me concerning UTIs in male cats: Stay away from fish like the plague. Not kidding. Check labels, because sometimes even food labeled as "beef and chicken" has fish in it.

I have a male cat who also has flare ups. If I can't find his catfood <nothing spectacular, but no fish>, and buy something with fish accidently, the peeing in corners starts all over. Soon as I buy the right stuff, it stops.

Just wanted to pass that along. This is my second male cat, and second one with UTIs. Frustrating.

No, none of the barn cats ever had shots and alot of them are feral and some are semi tame.

I hated my cat drinking out of my glass and alot of times I drink it without knowing it...wondered if you can get sick or get the HIV from them too.

Otherwise known as distemper. Okay, gotcha. I have never heard it refered to as that.

Feline aids is just a lentivirus that is speies specific. Human AIDS is also a lentivirus, which is why we commonly refer to Feline Infectious Virus as Feline AIDS. They are the same family of virus and act similar in cats as AID does in humans.

You cant get it from your cats. But his mouth is FULL of bacteria....I mean FULL. You never clean an animals teeth without a mask becasue the amount of bacteria that gets "kicked" up is amazing. I guess if you dont brush your teeth for 7 years, thats what happens.

I'm glad that Smokey seems better, but cats purr loudly when in pain or stressed as well as when happy. Don't take his purring to mean that he's feeling good, it might mean that he's in a lot of pain. Remember that cats hide their illnesses very well. Good luck at the vet tomorrow.

http://www.carecredit.com/

Check
out this link. IT's a "Credit card" for health, dental, vet bills that aren't normally covered by insurance. You can apply online and it will let you know immediately if you are approved and give you a "printout" that you can take to your vet. The catch is, your vet needs to be set up to accept this plan. THey have a "finder" feature that you can look up for vets in your area and see who accepts it. This was a lifesaver for my dog at one time. Thought i'd pass it along. Hope smokey gets better!!

All of my cats have been tested for "cat AIDS" and none of them have it, thank goodness!

None of my cats have distemper either.

Isn't that what cats always do?

Good point. But not Smokey. He's always running around having fun. He's very hyper compared to my other cats.
