i have raised baby ducks many times before.. and i have NEVER removed the water after 10 minutes...
do u think the company is saying that so that they dont have to replace the birds?

im really sorry about your two ducks that passed.

I've never removed water either. The company needs to replace your ducks. They were clearly over stressed if they drank so much water they drowned. I think you should send the company an email tonight and if that isn't satisfactory you should call back tommorow. You should have both the chicks you lost and the ducks replaced. Be sure and mention that the two remaining ducks appear stresses, so that if you do lose them they will replace them as well.

i agree with the above comment of course! because if you were "sopose" to let up the water after ten min, then why did the chicks die too? obviously the company doesnt want to cover there loss and give you ur money back or new babies.

I called the company today and they refunded the cost of the 1 chick and 2 ducks. The bad thing is though they charged me a packing fee for the small order I'm sure they won't refund. I was down to 2 ducks and 2 chicks. The one chick ,I was so happy ,I thought we brought it back from being close to dead, she started eating and drinking by herself, seemed steader on her feet was really doing well.....They seemed ok this morning but I didn't pick them all up, just gave fresh food and water, came home this evening and the sick chick is taking her last painful breaths. She went from close to a full recovery to dead chick in 8 hours. Poor little thing. I knew we shouldn't have named her yet. I guess her body had been through too much. Guess I'll call the company again tomorrow. My 4 yr old thinks she is sleeping. I'll answer his questions tomorrow when he sees she is gone. Blaaaaah this was way more fun last year.

Crazylilchick, we all try the best we can. I'm sorry about your ducks. Sometimes we make a mistake, or dont anticipate a problem where one could arise. My examples are the handful of birds I lost due to predators---I lost a few birds (one to a dog, and 3 bantams to predators getting at them into or thru the coop). Each time I learned more---I discovered new ways to predator proof. I was so mad at myself, but I felt better after someone told me that the best thing you can do is learn and anticipate based on the bad things that happen. Thats the best you can do. (oh, and enjoy good luck when it happens!)

I'm so sorry to hear about the problems you are having. Baby Ducks can drown by drinking to much water when you first give it to them. The hatchery should have told you that with your order. I give plain lukewarm water and let them all take a drink then remove it for about 30 minutes. They will also get wet and take a chill really easy.
