PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN... I THOUGHT MY HEN MIGHT BE EGG BOUND SHE IS A LITTLE SLEEPY SO I GAVE HER A WARM BATH FOR 20 MIN SHE IS ONE OF MY LITTLES THAT IS JUST STARTING TO LAY EGGS NOW. I THOUGHT I MAYBE FELT AN EGG IN HER ABDOMINAL AREA AND NOTICED HER BREATH SMELLED SWEET LIKE SWEET CORN THAT SHE DID HAVE TODAY. I SMELLED THE OTHER HENS AND THEIR BREATH DID NOT SMELL LIKE SWEET CORN. I FELT HER CROP AND JUST A LITTLE THEN USUAL AND ALSO SOMEWHAT SOFT. I CAN FEEL HER GRAIN THAT SHE HAS EATEN TODAY SO I AM REALLY NOT SURE WHAT THE SMELL IS FROM. SORRY ABOUT THE CAPS (EASIER FOR ME TO SEE)

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP,

JEN

You can check inside her vent with a finger inserted 1 inch upward to check for an egg. Egg binding is caused by a lack of calcium, so if you feel an egg, give her a Tums or 1/2 a calcium tablet by mouth, and soak in a shallow warm bath for 20 minutes, massaging her belly toward the vent to help her pass the egg. Check her crop in the morning to make sure that it is empty before she eats.
