HELP, HELP I SCREWED UP.. he's still alive

I was candling my call ducks this evening when i noticed one of them was NOT moving. So I decided to investigate, I opened up the egg. I took all the shell off where the air cell is so about half the egg shell is off. Then I touched the membrane where the duck was, NOTHING, I touched it again and BOOOM HE"S MOVING. OMG he's still alive. So I covered the entire egg up with a wet paper towel and put him back into the incubator. BUT WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW. Should I attempt to get his little head out??? He has NOT has NOT absorbed the yolk completely yet,. OMG I hope I didn't help in killing him... OMG...He's due to hatch tomorrow..

Sorry about your situation........but what possessed you to open up the egg the day before it was due to hatch?!

I think your best option is to keep the open up part of the egg covered with a damp paper towel and leave it well alone.

Well like I said, I thought it was dead, it wasn't moving just nothing. Plus, I could see a lot of air space between the membrane and the duck. It looked like it had dried up and died in the shell. Until I opened it. OMG.

So when you are looking down in the egg do you see its head?

No I see his neck but not his head. OMG, I can't beleive I did this.. Poor little guy..

It's alright. Now you know they can surprise you. I'm wondering if it was pipping backwards. That's why I asked that. Can you see yolk and if so how much? Bigger or smaller than a quarter.

Less then a quarter I would say about a dime size

I just checked on him and he's gone, Poor little guy and it's all my fault he is the cutest little thing too. So to make things worst, I decided to investigate him..First thing I noticed is he is very sticky. OMG, very sticky, this stream of thick clear fluids came out first. He's fully developed except not absorbing his yolk yet. He's head was tucked in by the yolk. This is what they call backwards? Why is he sooo sticky??YEK, there NO blood what so every..

To make matters worst, his little eyes are opened as if he is looking at me. OH I FEEL SO BAD....
