Help! Hen has hatched 5 & abandoned eggs

Put a thermometer in there too so you know what that temp is. Try to keep it around 100. If you have a plastic box with a lid you could place wet sponges in it and the egg and put the lamp over them. Don't close the lid but put it over to help hold the heat and humidity in the box for the egg.

If it is cheeping then it is internally pipped. Is there an external pip?

I did what you said. Found a plastic box with lid and put in wet sponges. There are three eggs. I don't know from which the sound came. One egg does have an external pip but when I candled it, it had a huge air pocket at one end. I am assuming this one stopped developing awhile ago. I haven't heard anything more since though.

So the temp is now 100 degrees in the plastic box. I am not hearing anything or seeing any piping. How long do I leave them there before throwing in the towel?
It is day 20 and all the other eggs hatched today.

If you hold each one to your ear and tap lightly usually you will hear a tap back or peeping. The air cells in eggs grow as they develop and get closer to hatching.

I would give them at least another day or two and see if there is more progress.

We had a hen abandon an egg right after another one hatched. Put it in a plastic box with wet paper towels and a thermometer, kept it around 100F for two more days, she is now top of the pecking order in our flock. I call her Mrs. Pushy because we hand raised her alone, and she still thinks she has the run of the house and barges in the kitchen every time we open the back door. You have a good chance of hatching them if you let nature take its course. Good luck!

Thanks everyone! I will keep you posted if anything transpires!!! Hopefully we will have a few more chicks to add to the flock.

The five that hatched already are the toast of the hen house! All the other ladies are so excited and come to visit the Momma hen and her young ones.

So I debated about putting the eggs under the hen last night but decided not to. I wish I had cause when I got up the temp inside the box was a little over 85. When I went to bed it was 100. I don't hear anything and am no longer going to lift the lid for today to keep the environment stable as I read that is what to do. I don't have much hope for these guys but will keep trying.

I think they're old enough in them eggs to tolerate a wider temp range. I don't think 85 or up to 100 will bother them. I'm just glad I have a cheapy incubator when an egg gets left. easy fix.

If worse comes to worse I would have stuck the eggs in my shirt!
