Help! Hen in serious condition!

What are you treating her sour crop with? The usual treatment consists of an anti-yeast medicine, such as miconazole or Nystatin, twice a day for seven days.

You should see an emptying of the crop within 24 hours, and your hen will start to feel much better after that.

If the crop does not empty, check it first thing in the morning before she eats anything, then there are other issues in addition to sour crop that need to be dealt with.

Don't quit the treatment even if she feels better. You need to do it for a full week.

Ease her back into eating by giving her boiled egg the first day with maybe a little grated raw carrot. Pro-biotics or yogurt are also a good idea to establish some good flora in her crop and intestines.

UPDATE// Her crop is completely flat. However she is really tired and I cant seem to get her to drink. Her stomach is making growling noises like shes hungry but she can't eat for 24 hours. What should I do?

How sould i give this medicine to her. Would i give it to her in her water or food (yoghurt)?

HUGE IMPROVEMENT/// She pooped for the first time today in who knows hoe long! It was runny but they right color. I never would have thought I would be so excited about her pooping. I guess I'm doing something right!

If her crop emptied, then it does not sound like sour crop. I would investigate other possible problems. Can you be more descriptive about the balls coming out of her beak? Make a runny mash out of chicken feed, a lot of water, a little tsp of plain yogurt for probiotics, and some egg. Offer plain water often as well. Try to get a fecal float by a local vet to look for coccidiosis and worms. Corid in the water for 5 days can treat coccidiosis, and SafeGuard Liquid Goat Wormer 1/4 ml per pound can treat worms, given 3-5 days in a row.

Feel of her breast bone for weight loss, feel of her lower belly for fullness or swelling. Look her over for lice and mites around the vent and elsewhere. Is she having difficulty walking or roosting? How long since she laid an egg?

She stopped laying eggs a couple of weeks ago along with my other older hen. The balls were almost lile spit and the smelled awful. She hasn't lost any weight and doesn't have trouble walking or roosting. She is tired and isnt really eating however.
