Help hen is sick!

There are a million old posts about Tylan on BYC. A good drug book called Plumbs Veterinary Handbook states that dosage of Tylan for chickens is 10-40 mg per Kg (5-20mg per pound) given 2-4 times a day for up to 5 days. Tylan 50 contains 50 mg per ml.

That can be given orally or by intramuscular injection. Many find that Tylan can be harsh when given as an injection, and some have reported muscle damage. So I usually would recommend giving it orally straight into the beak a drop at a time so as mot to choke them.
In your experience what’s the survival rate with this infection?

I would Google MG in poultry and read some articles by The Poultry Site or The Merck Veterinary Manual for statistics. I think the majority of birds who show symptoms may survive. Some may never reach their potential as layers or not gain as much weight. I have never had an outbreak of MG that I know of. Once I think I may have had some chickens with viral infectious bronchitis, and that lasts about a month. Testing (PCR test)is the only way to confirm a disease or tell the difference from one to another. You may contacting your state vet about that. A necropsy by the state vet or poultry lab is another way to confirm it.

Update, don’t know if I said this or not. I have two coops, 4 BR in one coop that are laying. The other one I have 8 with two breeds HR & Americanas. None of the 8 are allowed in the BR coop. The BR don’t like them in there. The first sick bird I found in the BR coop. I left to go to a friends who had meds and didn’t think to tell the family not to put the BR away for the night in that coop. This morning I found the BR that was showing signs and removed her, I get home today and two more BR are showing signs but not near as bad as the others. Quarantine and treatment has begun. Question I have now is I’m running out of space to quarantine all 5 of these birds. 3 of these BR are not as bad as the other 2. Can I treat and quarantine them together and does it have to be inside or can I lock them in the coop? The other 8 have been locked up and they show no signs at all. The distance between the two coops is about 20+ feet.
My thoughts are clean the coop one more time real good with vinegar and keep the 3 lock in there continuing treatment and care. In addition to space I have run out of food and water dishes.
Can I put them together?
Inside or can they be outside?

She needs to go to the vet. If you don't have one, go to local farm store and get antibiotics, had this happen to two of my chickens, it's basically a cold. Will go away in a few days or a week with treatment. She doesn't look too bad though, just sounds really nasty. Sending good vibes her way!

Gave the Tylan 50 to 4 birds. 3 are the same or slightly worse. 1 looks to maybe getting better. I don’t see nasal discharge or the breathing issue. I’m going to follow everything i have done with that one. Primarily I ran out of room to keep theses babies inside. So I have extra fencing and made an enclosure on my porch. Treated her and put her in there and hopped for the best. She’s the one doing better. So I’m going to see if it’s the environment and I’m going to out them all outside today. Of course locked up. None of my birds are free ranging until this has passed. Fingers crossed
