Help!!!! Hen Staggering! Acts Drunk! R.I.P

Mareks disease will cause chickens to stagger and act drunk...that can even be the only symptom of the disease. Best of luck with her.

Thanks I looked up mereks I don't believe that is the case. All though I am thinking Cocci disease. But the baytril should work if it doesn't I don't know what to do next.

I'm not sure if baytril works for cocci. Maybe someone can give advice on that. Sulmet and Corid are the two cocci treatments i know of. I had a little modern who had cocci and she staggered when she walked and would just lay there in a big heap. I kept her warm and gave her sulmet. It took a little over a week but she finally started feeling better and started eating and drinking again.

Thanks much I appreciate it. This poor girl don't look good. I am still feeding her by an eyedropper with baby food and kyro syrup mixed. It seems to be keeping her alive. I am still giving her water. she can't do anything on her own. She gets up on her feet still and does turn around but not for long. So I still have hope for her. I gave her the last dose of baytril still no results. Also how long should I give her the medicine for the cocci.

How is she doing this morning? I hope she and you had a good night and what ever is causing this is subsiding.

I have had this happen to one of my Silkies..vitamins and electrolytes for a few days should do the trick.

You can also ask the vet to prescribe metacam, an NSAID.
