Help! Hen with heat stroke!

How's your girl doing?

Thank you SO much for the info RW! I'm bookmarking it in case we run into a problem, though I think DH and myself are more likely to get heat stroke then my chickens.

While we sweated our behinds off cleaning out the coop on Saturday (temps around 95, super high humidity and not a mountain breeze in sight) this is how my girls were occupying their time...

LOL I know what you mean about sweaty.... I had a thought while I was out there cleaning and moving things in the coop and pens the other day. Sweaty, dirty, hot

With the coop dust swilrling around my head and me breathing it in, all I could think of is that "if we are what we eat"... then I am 1/2 chicken and 1/2 chicken poo.

Has anyone experienced a stumbling bird after extreme heat/stress. One of my young girls (3 mos) was knocked for a loop this week when we had temps over 100 and high winds and she panicked and went inside of their small coop which was very hot. By the time I got to her after work she was in distress. She drank water for a long time and I thought she would be alright but the next day she couldn't walk and she sill can't stand and stumbles about. She has no other signs of any disease and she is otherwise alert. Please let me know if you have experienced this and what remedy did you use?

Was looking for signs and symptoms of heat stroke ( we live in the very hot San Joaquin Valley in CA and yesterday and today are experiencing 108-110 degree temps and I wanted to know what to watch for in my girls.

Itsippy, how is your girl doing? Did she make it?

I have a very hot hen inside right now as i found her barely alive on the edge of her nesting box...
Its 36c right now and shes the hen who refuses to leave the coup even when i bring out watermelon.
I gave her a cold bath right away and now shed laying in a cold room on a towel sleeping. Hope she gets better. Shes defenitly stronger when wakes up for a second then falls asleep again...
Shes basically acting like a tired newborn chick
