I do have some RIRs...but Silkies have always just made me laugh! They are just so funny! We always enjoyed them at the fair here. Would love to have some...who couldn't use a smile everyday!?
i wanted silkies too, so i ordered some eggs to incubate. out of 12 eggs, only 3 hatched....but i love those 3 lil' chicks so much! one has a vaulted skull (the yellowish one) and the other 2 do not. and one out of the 3 is super tiny!!

How to identify them from what? Chickens? You do realize Silkies are not true chickens don't you? First off they have black skin. Second they come out of their skins at night when your sleeping and contact the mother ship. Also you have to wear tin foil hats so they can't read your thoughts. The reason they don't lay many eggs is cause their stashing them for a major take over the earth invasion. They grow all that fuzz over their eyes so you can tell what they're thinking. All the adopted chicks they hatch of other breeds eggs, have their brains switched out for "silkie" brains. That's why I would neve use one as a brooder for my other breeds.
They day after my neighbor got silkies she started acting funny. I once caught her dancing on the lawn at night. There was a full moon that night too. I called her husband and he came out and took her inside.
HAHAHHA!!!!!! the mother ship....HAHAHAHA!
But really.....do chicks adopted by silkie mammas really have a "silkie brain" afterward? I have 4 week olds with a silkie mamma. I want to keep the BO. Can't resist keeping just one more! Now I do have to say, my one silkie was laying an egg a day before she went broody. ( But I've never worn the little tin foil hat. )
