Hello! Advice urgently needed!
I have a broody hen, who has dutifully sat for 25 days now. So the conclusion is the eggs didn't make it. I have therefore went ahead and gotten two baby day old chicks from a local breeder this morning, who contrary to what I've read about introducing them at night, said, "just give them to her now ( in the day time)
Well...! That didn't go well!
My broody went from placid friendly girl, to horrible hen and pecked the chick, luckily she miss-aimed and I got the sharp edge of her beak! ouch!
Now I'm so worried about trying again this evening. Will she really take to them, just because it's dark? Or will I wake up to find to murdered chicks?!
I naively though she would just look at them with loving eyes and be thankful for baby's.... What an ungrateful hen! lol!
Also - do the chicks need feed and water atm? I have given them chick food and water, in their shoe box! But as they just hatched during the night, I was hoping the hen would teach them all that stuff, not me.
