We are new here and started with 6 chicks. They are about 6-8 wees old. we have been having great luck and today lost one chick and one has a lump like a tumor on it's chest. Tjey were the two little ones. I separated the one with the lump and put it with the next smallest chick but want to know what it could be. I looked online and there was something called breat bumps?? My daughter cleaned the cage last and didn't put enough shaving in i think. Anything I can do??/

That sounds like the chicken's crop. If you are feeding them treats or grass, are you giving them grit?
It's normal for the crop to be full of food, but it can get impacted if the chickens don't have grit or if they eat long blades of grass.

Try searching for impacted crop.

Good luck!

Could the lump possibly be a full crop? The chicken has a little pouch called a crop at the base of its neck and over to one side. After they eat it will be big enough to see. You might want to check before it eats in the morning. If its gone then that is what it is. If before it eats its still huge then its probably something else.
I had a lady call me all in a panic over her chicken having a tumor and after I got her calm enough it turned out that it was just a full crop because the chicken ate alot just before a storm that was rolling in.

oops I think we all hit submit at one time...sorry for the repeat answer and welcome to BYC.
