HELP...... I am not sure whats wrong with Gigi, but it doesn't look good I am afraid

I gave her some Amoxil a bit ago. She laid an egg in the kennel and never said a word, but is still breathing on the heavy side. My son said she has been eating and drinking all day which I would have preferred her not to eat but her crop is emptying it appears at a normal rate.

She is still got the droopy tail and wings hanging low, but walking has improved a lot. I am just so perplexed by this behavior.

My vet does not care for chickens and the bird doctors in the area are quoting $500 to treat her. Hubby says pray, watch and see if the antibiotics bring improvement.

I have the AC on in the house to try and keep it cool if she is warm. Can chickens run a fever?

I am happy there is improvement but still very scared because I know how things can go down hill so quickly.

All of my other hens and rooster are acting normal outside.

If you're going to go with antibiotics, I'd use the Keflex or Amoxicillin. I'll look it up for you, but I think you'll need to give 100-125mg/kg with either drug.

We checked her legs and all over. Nothing obviously out of place or wrong. My son was thinking that maybe she got herself stuck under the hen house yesterday and might have become dehydrated.

She is in her kennel and alert and pecking at the crumbs of mash and scratch on the towel. I wonder if I should feed her or if I should give her some hard boiled egg and yogurt for tonight. Her poops have become softer and runnier than this morning.

Her tail still hangs down and her wings are held out slightly to the side and still panting. I sure hope she turns around for the better.

Should I feed her her regular diet?
