If you don't want egg production as your main goal, & just want something to watch, you might check out the exotic breeds, like the long tails. Check out my Red Shouldered Yokahamas on My Page. They're beauts!
I also agree about getting silkies!! They won't fly away and are sooo sweet
and just soooo cute !! You will fall in love with them and soon have many of
those little coops you posted the picture of!! LOL!!
Buff Orpingtons, I have abunch, and they lay really good they are really friendly and they go broody quite offten. They can fly, but I have a fenced in yard ( Kind of! LOL ) and they have NEVER flew over it! Or maybe Cochins!!!
I think basically any real heavy breed are usually pretty docile and dont fly much.I also think EEs are pretty nice to and they lay green or blue eggs.
I love my light brahmas They will walk up to me and eat from my hand i can pick them up without having to chase them they like to be pet like a dog or cat and always calm.
I think Plymouth Rocks, particularly the Barreds and Blues, are the perfect breed, however, most any chicken can get over a 2 1/2 ft fence. And you don't want chickenwire, either, because any predator can rip through that, but if the fence is that low with no top on it, won't matter what you get, any predator will get them.
