So my duck egg is hatching early he’s done his external pip but we haven’t really seen much movement from him in a couple days I’m scared I may have shrink wrapped him as this is my first hatch and I didn’t know about the lockdown thing I’ll attach pictures he started zipping halfway round the shell but now there is no movement or change for a couple of days he’s also about 4 days early hatching I read that if they don’t hatch in 48 hours then you may want to assist I’ll attach pictures below I’m really scared he’s died during hatching any help would be appreciated thanks

Update we opened up the egg slightly as there was no movement or chirping he’s still alive and we’ve put him back in the incubator I’m just worried as the membrane is starting to dry over him and he looks as though he’s a bit stuck I think he is shrink wrapped but I’m not sure I’ll post some pictures later he’s due to hatch tomorrow but I don’t know whether to open up the sack so that he can move will he suffocate if he’s like that still super worried

When you opened up the shell, did you see active blood vessels? It looks to me like the duckling may have pipped into a vessel at some point, so was clearly not ready to hatch then. Ducklings can take what seems like a long time to hatch after pipping (longer than chicks) - if he's not making progress on zipping but can access air from the external pip, I'd leave him alone for now because he may still be absorbing yolk and the blood vessels may still need to dry up.

Pics would be helpful. Hoping he just needs a little more time to finish the pre-hatching processes. 🤞
