Help I don't think I did the hobble right?

Ok, I hatched my first batch of 3 silkies yesterday evening. One appears to have spradle leg. I read up on all the info, I got the vet wrap and put it on my little silkie... All the illustrations I see, the next photo shows them standing.. mine is not. it's wobbling all over the place and just seems miserable. They are not even 24 hours old yet so I just would like to know is this normal or did I do it wrong?

Hi & thanks, I think I was in a panic cause he lets, call it she was flopping all around. I tightened up the distance between legs a little and now I see her standing properly. They are still all wobbly as anything but there not quite 1 day old yet. I will post some photos. I think I have to bind up the other one, sometimes I see it's leg sticking out sideways. Make sure that it is spraddle (splay) leg and not perosis (slipped tendon.) If one leg turns outward it can be a slipped tendon, and has to be fixed in first 24 hours, according to some sights. With splay leg, it takes them awhile to get used to the hobbles. I left mine on for 3 days, and it could have used 1 more day. X2! I had a rescued peachick that had to have them on for over a week!

Ok most times I see this guy I see him standing pretty good but then there's a few of these poses that make me nervous...



I sent this photo so you could see the hobbles..... I think they are too chunky although he/sheee does stand better when he/sheee is able to...


here you can see him/ herrrr standing nicely... along with the other one who seems to be standing pretty good.

Thoughts?

I think the paper towel might be too slippery, can you try him on a towel instead?

ok good idea.... I am getting their bucket ready with light and I will put a towel down .... l didn't put anything in the brooder box on top of the grate cause I was warned to not open the box.. at some point we put a towel in and with the high humidity the towel became soaked. So what are you suppose to use during those three days when you want the humidity from the bottom to come up and you don't want the chicks on something that is soaked with water? There must be a perforated rubbery liner I could use.

There is! It's that stuff some people use in their kitchen cabinets.
