I had a girl just like this. She won't stop on her own. Chicken jail, for sure, while you make the other changes to keep the flock safe.
Here are some more videos I found when I wasn’t out there. I really don’t want to lose her bc to me she’s sweet. Sits in my lap wants to be around me cuddles. But I know I have to protect the others. I will start with 20% protein food. I’m ordering a wind chime for chickens and a different smaller perch. I was trying to keep it open but seems like they need more to keep them occupied. I’ll blue kote the naked butts. If that doesn’t work I’ll look into peeper thing and chicken jail or separate for a few days. Super sadly if that doesn’t work I will see if my vet will take her on his 80 acres. She may not have a problem if there was so much more space?
Did you break this behaviors in her?I had a girl just like this. She won't stop on her own. Chicken jail, for sure, while you make the other changes to keep the flock safe.
There's also a lot of monkey-see-monkey-do with chickens. Others will pick up on the habit.
My girl was successfully rehomed to a large, free-range flock and stopped the behavior immediately. Of course, I was very transparent about why I was rehoming her. So by "cull", I don't necessarily mean you need to put down a bird you love. I also (respectfully) disagree that this is bullying. She's bored, like mine was, and pulling feathers is a rewarding action with nutritional benefit. They don't do it to be mean. And believe me, I had my share of actual "mean" birds this year.Did you break this behaviors in her?
Thank you for sharing. I’m going to try this stuff. My vet has a lot of them and they free range on a huge piece a land. She may not do it there like yours. I don’t think this girl is mean at all. She may just not be a fit for what I can give. The other are fine and don’t do any of the bullying or seem bored. I just ordered a chime and another perch. I chose to rehome over using the peepers, but if I hadn't found the perfect flock for her, the peepers would have gone on. Run distractions, a feed change, and 1 week of separation did not change her. That doesn't mean you won't have success though!
