Hi everyone, I live in Upstate NY, and I have seven chickens. I got them as chicks this past spring. I have one, very vocal, New Hampshire red Rooster, four Red Star hens, and two Leghorn hens. I rebuilt an old chicken house that was on my wife's parents farm, it was built late 1,800's or early 1,900's. I insulated it real good and I have a heat lamp in it. It seems the chickens must like it, because even as cold as it is around here, they still produce every day. That is all except one of the leghorns, for some reason she never laid an egg. Is it possible that she never will? This hen seem to be a little slow, her comb is very small and immature, and she stays at the opposite side in the chicken house than the others. Other then that she seems normal and has a good appetite. Any info would be appreciated.

She might be a little younger than the others or just a late bloomer. Sometimes the "non-layers" will be laying, but will have found a secret place. Or she might be laying where a snake or rat can get to her eggs. Probably best to give her some more time.

It sounds like she is also the lowest on the pecking order - smaller than the others and staying away from them. Possibly they are bullying her away from the feeders, you should put out another feeder for her, on the opposite side of the coop as the other feeder.

Eggs take a lot of protein to produce and if she's not getting enough food, there won't be any excess to use for laying.
