Help I interrupted a coyote attack! Chickens in bad shape, any advice would be appreciated!!

I'm so sorry! Argh!

All right got cheerio, can you offer her watermelon and raw yolk, see if that will entice her. Also try some freshly cooked ground beef, maybe a tablespoon or so.
Thank you so much. Cheerio is still with us! She ate some raw rice grains and corn millet last night and this morning, and also voluntarily drank the water I put in which I was relieved to see. She didn’t want any raw or scrambled egg, but I will go buy some beef, watermelon, yogurt and berries to see if she’ll want those. I have been disinfecting and changing her bandaids twice a day and feeding her one 85mg aspirin with buttermilk 1-2 times a day. The vet appt is tomorrow!

You're doing great. Keep pushing the sugar water with electrolytes. It will keep her from going into shock and from getting dehydrated from fluid loss through the wounds.

The penicillin is a good idea with such extensive wounds.
I agree. We’ve had numerous fox and coyote attacks over the last 2 years. Some hens have made it through with flying colors, others didn’t. Miss Beasley (Easter Egger) limps, but she’s back to laying eggs, and is happy as ever. Good luck to you with your babies!

The revenge/illegal method would be to take some of the chicken meat they killed... and get those large hooks, bait the hooks up in a a few trees near the property... check them in a week. Don't do this... causes suffering to the wild animals and is illegal

a legal method... could be to hide traps around the run/coop (paw traps) and bait them. Good Winter coats of coyotes fetch a good price
Paw traps don't cause suffering? Why would you even suggest these things? I just had a coyote attack today and the last thing I would do is seek revenge on a creature that is just trying to sustain the God-given life it has been given. A life made nearly impossible by land development and people with your mindset.

I'm so sorry 😔 I hope your cheerio heals quickly sounds like you are doing a great job caring for her. I would be sure to check that your coop and run are secure. The coyote will likely be back. I have heard peeing around the area will deter them. You may also want to get some motion detector barking dogs and lights.
