Hey guys!

I know this isn't really a right place to post this but I need some opinions from your expierience with chickens.

Backround: I am doing a science fair project regional level in order to help chicken owners all around and for my vet college resume. It has to be high school/college level! I want to do something (involving chickens obviously) that will produce useful conclusions/results.

For example:

I don't want to do-
Do chickens like to eat out of red, green, blue, or yellow bowls?
(So what if the chicken likes the green bowl?)

I want to do something like-
What humidity during incubation has the best hatch rates?
(This will help beginners who want an specific answer that has been proven to work and ...I am planning to do this experiment if I can't find anything better.)

Please give me ideas on what I should experiment on that will help you all? (Chicken nutrition, effective treatment, winter laying, ect) Keep in mind they have to be scientifically testable.

I will also be going around and talking to chicken experts and livestock veterinarians for a more accurate answer

Thank you for having a look,

Have a nice day

Ooh this is interesting. First off, how much time do you have for your project? I'm assuming a few months? And do you have chickens that you can use for the project or will you need to deal with hatching eggs or baby chicks?

There are two deadlines and I am aiming for Febuary but if I need more time I can do the March one~!

I can get chickens, I can get baby chicks, I can get fertile eggs, I have a incubator with experience in hatching duck and chicken eggs, and a brooder/coop. I have or can get anything needed :)

Could you do a replication of an already done study? Dipping hatching eggs in Vit C to increase viability.

One theory I'm experimenting with is "Does chick gender correlate with hatching egg shape?" I was able to increase pullet hatch from 40 to 60% by using this experiment. In order for you to make this study work in your time frame, you'd need to use sex linked eggs.

I like both of the ideas, the egg shape thing sounds pretty cool as my family always places bets on which eggs will be male/female before being incubated. It would help alot with many hatching industries and the # of demises on male chicks I would think. Thank you a lot I will place those down on my list!
