But I am enjoying the Yoga

Hello, A good place to start is with a book called, Yoga For Equestrians great lessons. And a Yoga Balance Ball.
What type of riding do you do? English or western? Gaited or Trot?

I ride a Whitman Cutback saddle, it is a flat english saddle used for showing saddleseat but I also use it as my favorite trail saddle. Other trailriders are always asking how I stay on my guy at speed on the trail, and I just smile and say balance. BTW I am closer to 50 than 40 and I still have the need for speed. Only ride with a western saddle when working cattle or horsecamping off the beaten path and need saddle bags.

I agree with the yoga ball, I even use one at my computer. There is also DVD called Tai Chi for the Equestrian, that is excellent. I had to really work at reclaiming my evenness after a back injury.

Maye, I have a TWH, gaited. She has a wonderful gait, even better when I'm sitting straight., she becomes straight, and relaxes into the bit. Then I find myself stiffening up just to hold the position, and when Instructor gets me relaxed, the stiffness moves into my neck and jaw. Owww! I ride in a Tucker Plantation, it seems to feel the closest to a dressage seat than any other non-dressage saddle. Not a chair seat like most.

Verthandi, your having to come back from a back injury reminds me I think my problems started in 1995 when I had a car accident and broke some ribs on the right side. From then on it's been fighting a slump, and keeping that right side from collapsing all the time. I should have started exercise back then.

I am having trouble "feeling" what is a balanced seat and body. I can't feel my way into balance. I can be told where balanced seat is, just hard to locate it by feel. Quite a few people in the past year have said to me "do you know you're sitting crooked?" How do I feel it, aside from having equal weight in each stirrup?

Hi, sent you a e-mail with some exercises that worked for me after my car accident. Did not ride for 6+ years. We will get you back in the saddle with better balance. I know I will not be the only one in your corner. You will have a big cheering section on BYC..

Yes, I know Bobby, Rita, and Debbie. I thought that was a pic of Debbie up on your page. Good horse people, they have or did have TWH, RMH,Racking, Qtr's and Hunter/ Jumpers.

Why not post the exercises in this thread? There are more than a few old car wrecks (and horse wrecks

) on this forum who would love to ride again...like me!
I am afraid I will make my back worse or injure it more and I sure don't want to inflict any unevenness on a horse.

Yup still have those types. I like the way they treat all the horses. I like the way they run the barn. I'm glad you know them!

It's funny, I never felt crooked. But I always felt that my saddle would work it's way to the left, and I always felt that the right stirrup was too long.
