Uh! thats a great idea thank u I shall try that....

Massala Update: thank u for asking! yesterday seemed a like a big set back, he was sulking and pale and just wasn't happy, even my fathr who is not a big chicken guy seemed to notice he was lookin worse. Which had me frightenend that a non-chicken person could tell too...

but today he seems perkier, brighter in color. and He seemed to gain just a bit, very little bit, of weight. Its hard to tell how much he eats cuz he has never been as big as a eater as the hen anyways so I don't know. So i reckon its just like a day to day basis...

agian thanks yall....

Whatever it is that your chickens have, has anyone ever put a name to it? What is it called?

We're dealing with an enlarged crop right now, but our hen is eating well, thank goodness.

I'm thinking of keeping the parrot feed and nutridrench on hand for when this happens to me. Where did you find them? What exactly is the parrot food called?

My fingers are crossed for Massala and Pearl!

It's called "Kaytee Exact Hand Feeding Formula". It says that it's "For All Baby Birds", although it only shows parrots on the label. I was able to find it at my local livestock feed store for only $6.19 (for an 18oz canister), but you could probably also find it at many pet stores that carry bird supplies.

I really don't know WHAT Cobalt and Pearl were/are suffering from... At least Cobalt seems to have gotten over it, but I am very concerned for Pearl. I'm even starting to wonder if their illnesses could have different causes, since Pearl's symptoms appear to be different from Cobalt's. Cobalt was very lethargic and seemed to lose his appetite as a result, whereas Pearl still seems rather alert, but pants almost continuously!

They both lost weight, but we didn't notice it on Pearl until she had become much thinner. I'm starting to fear that she might have gape worm... especially since I just saw her shake her head and scratch at herself in a few places. She looks uncomfortable at times. I think I will drive out to the feed store for some Ivermectin tomorrow morning, and deworm the whole flock. Could gape worm account for her weight loss? I guess so, since they would be draining her of nutrients, right? It might even explain her drooping comb... it could have gone limp from oxygen deprivation. Does anyone know anything about treating gape worm? How long should it take for her to show some improvement after I deworm her??? I feel so sorry for her...

Massala update:

Yesterday was a great day but as i said it is a day to day basis, yesterday was great today is ok.... he pooped that long strand of poop again but this time it took him a while to get out, like a human constipated. he went all pale in the face. and when it did come out, there was a few smudges of blood in it....he is talkin a lot more, last night he was on the perch, the first time in a week. but isnt the blood bad?
i continue to give him, polyvisol, yolk, and yogurt. and put the polyvisol in his water... do yall think i should try force feeding him oatmeal? yesterday he seemed so much better. we have one good day and one bad and repeat...so scared thought he might be recoverin.....

From what I know, blood in the stool could be a sign of cocciodosis. Maybe you should treat with Sulmet, just in case. I would check with ThreeHorses, but that's what I'd consider if I saw blood passed by any of my flock. Hope that helps... a little anyway.

Adults don't often get coccidiosis, though it can happen. If the stool was constipated and hard, it could have literally just caused a fissure (small tear) in the vent or that latter portion of the digestive tract as it was leaving.

Please do listen to the advice on trying to feed him something that has a vitamin package within it. Like parrot formula. Oatmeal doesn't have enough nutrition. I'd just finally go bite the bullet and buy a small thing of parrot formula, please. It has probiotics, vitamins, and everything in it - so you won't have to feed the other vitamins, etc.

I can't recall - did you ever worm him?

threehorses,

i just put wazine in their water now, so i just dewormed him......um i have been feeding him parrot formula with the vitamins and and yolk and yogurt..seems his appetite is better.looks a little perkier... but please know i am tryin to follow yalls instructions as best as possible and if i don't, it aint intentionally but again thanks yall for your help!!!

My girl, Pearl, doesn't seem to be getting any better, and she's still so thin! She hasn't laid an egg since I brought her inside, and maybe even before that. I did a pelvic exam but I couldn't feel anything inside. It also seemed like her crop wasn't empty after yesterday's afternoon feeding, so I gave some olive oil, massaged her crop, and made her expell everything. Her crop still felt soft and squishy, but I wanted to examine the contents just to see what's going on. It did smell a bit sour, but I thought that might be from the Apple Cider Vinegar I gave her the other day. I gave her some probiotic paste, Nutri-drench, and a bit more parrot paste. It didn't look like she'd eaten anything other than the parrot formula lately. Her poo is very watery, mostly yellow with a touch of green spots. I added Duramycin-10 to her water, and I left crumbles in her cage with her, but I haven't been able to see her eat or drink anything on her own. I did give her some medicated water with an eye dropper, though, just to get some into her. I still don't know what her problem is. I made an appointment at an avian vet for Monday morning, if she isn't any better by then. I just can't stand to feel so helpless and watch her suffer!

He still looks pale but no hunching over, he was on the perch last night. ahh! Praise the Lord!!!!

Do you think I should still continue wiwth the polyvisol until he is 100%? I don't wanna drop his treatments jsut becuz he is getting better, i need him to be 100%........
you thank you thank you for your time and advice!!!
