Help I Think I Want some MORE!!!

Just looked up a pic of the Wheaten Ameraucana Roo... beautiful!

If it weren't for the fact that winter is coming and I don't have a barn, I'd be in the same boat. I want a dozen more right now.

Go for it!

I just thought of something hubs said yesterday. He ran into a woman who told him that she and her husband were ordering a bunch of hens for their first experience. She whispered to my hubs that she had also ordered turkeys but didn't tell her husband.

Yeah right now just trying to figure out how to break the news.

Honestly DH is great and probably won't complain too much just got to get over the hurdle of "honey I want some more chickens and I can get them this weekend"!

Now all I have to do is tell him!

I say great, go for it, but I'm also puzzled. YOu say they're not hatchery stock, but then you say this woman orders her birds from hatcheries and takes really good care of them. But taking care of them doesn't change the genetics....??? All you're doing is adding her as a middle man, not changing where the birds come from. Or did I miss something?

I'm not suggesting you stop buying from her, if you like the birds you've gotten, I'm just looking for clarification. good luck with your enlarged family!

hensonly, the lady I bought my first pullets from does order most of her chicks from hatcheries but the Ameraucanas she has is from a local breeder that I am not familliar with. The breeder doesn't breed just Ameraucanas so the possibility of unexpected crosses is there. I was considering ordering from a breeder (like Pips and Peeps) but the smallest order you can get is 15 straight run chicks. Since I am looking more for the colors (B/B/S) and the "look" of the Ameraucana I am not really concerned if technically they are EE's. I would order EE's from a hatchery but from what I have seen I would not get the colors I am looking for. I probably wasn't really clear on that in my OP. Hope that answers your question

Thanks for the help everyone!! I finally got the courage to talk about it with DH and he said "I don't care, you really want to chase more chickens around?"

I told him yes. I go to check them out on Sunday. Saturday I pick up the bigger coop. I waste no time!!

Well I have to limit myself somewhat. I figure four hens and the one rooster. Can't wait to see them. Dreaming of the splashes especially since I think the color is soooo neat!

Have the place all picked out for where the new coop will go and it will work out great for keeping the four I have now separated from the new ones. Once quarantine is over I will move my four in with the new ones and keep the smaller coop for possible additions later.

The small coop is a tractor so when it is getting time to get them all together I will move the tractor close to the new coop so they can see each other and get used to each other. I am SOOOO excited!!!

I can't do that yet, I know he knows how to count to four

Now if I start hatching eggs next year, maybe he will lose count of how many we have!!!
