Help I think Ive been HAD!

I just rehomed our high school's FFA flock that was being totally neglected. I took two home myself. Sounds like both groups were in similarly horrible shape. The Golden Comet I brought home had an impacted crop and was about half the weight she should be. Both hens had bumblefoot, worm overloads, and bad lice infestations. Now the Golden Comet is dealing with persistent vent gleet. I've had them 3 weeks now. If I can get that vent problem cleared up (I'm starting medistatin tomorrow,), I'll begin integrating them next week.

The stress of the move stopped them from laying, but the Australorp lays daily. The Golden Comet was laying daily, until the vent gleet got worse. Maybe your girls just needed to settle in and get dome good food to get them back to laying condition. I'm just glad they're working out now!

Wow it sounds like you've been through a rollercoaster as well, what are people doing with these chickens ...I mean they aren't that hard to take care of some food and clean water is basically all they need oh, sorry you had to go through that the Easter Egger I bought also had gleet I believe and it's finally starting to clear up oh, what are you giving for the gleet? I've been putting apple cider vinegar in the water

Update! I've got a few more eggs from both of the new older girls.... I've been pleasantly surprised I guess with the correct feed now that they're in a good home from apple cider vinegar freshwater they really have been turning around they even look shinier and better oh, there's also a change in the hierarchy the new production Rhode Island red with the Spurs that I called the sheriff has quickly become the top of the pecking order!!! Im not surprised!!!! My to Dixie rainbows have actually stop playing I don't know because of the Heat or because of their weight gain and which is another post they've been eating a lot of scratch grains and not their pellet!

Thanks! Got alot of eggs from my other girls now just waiting in the dixie girls tomprove themselves wether theybare meant for the dual purpose flock or freezer camp!!!!

They can be so finicky! I hope you figure it out. Seems like the new girls are making the old girls look bad!

I know a 4-H judge who used to buy “spent” hens and feed them millet and other grains until they started laying again. Then he would auction them at higher prices than he bought them, but he doesn’t do it anymore because the seller found out and won’t sell him any more.

Yes have bought soent hens and done the same but kept them!!! They lay great when you rehab them!!

I think I mentioned the guy messaged me and wanted to know if I wanted to buy any more from him he must be desperate but I turned him down because with my luck the next ones I would get would be diseased and I don't want to take that chance every other one looked so horrible when I was there! but it's been nice being able to add colored eggs to my dozens

Update!!!!!!: so the two girls I got have been giving me three eggs a week give or take..... the guy I told y'all about that I got them from message me about a week ago asking if I would like to buy any more I told him that I wasn't interested that much because I wasn't willing to spend that much money. So I take a look on Craigslist and he has them posted as free??? I feel like messaging him and asking if they were still available???.. I just think it's weird that he messages me wondering if I would like to buy them but then hasn't posted for free on Craigslist..... lol so weird!
