Help, i think my bunny is sick :( *UPDATE*

thanks ducky bff. i think i will clean it with soap and bleach it and do soap again. i made my own mixture of cleaning stuff and bleach.

crazyland, the vet said it may have been intestinal because i was completely unaware you are supposed to give bunnies hay. i thought the pellets covered EVERYTHING they needed. i know for next week when i get a new bunny for my birthday. but i think she ended up having a heart attack due to stress when we got home from the vet office.

rest in peace lily billy nilly girl.

i hate coming home to and empty bunny cage. she used to get soooooo excited when i'd come home. she'd chew on the side of the cage and begg to come out. i will miss her licking my fingers and my nose. i will miss her stretching up to give me kisses when i'd put my head in her cage. i will also miss her hopping into bed with me as well.

I am sorry abut your loss.

I doubt not feeding any hay caused the problem. Many breeders do not feed hay and do not see any problems. My guess is that it was the fruits and vegetables that caused it. Thats not your fault though because you probably didn't know that. They can cause some pretty severe GI stasis, which can wreak havoc on the bunnies digestive system.

Make sure your new bunny gets some good grass hay, and no fruits and vegetables.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I also didn't know not to give buns fruits and veggies, I read on rabbits.org that they need all this, hay, fruits, veggies, not just pellets, which is all I was giving him. Wow, maybe I shoudl rethink his diet.

I raise rabbits, and depending on the breed they don't have to have hay. If you feed a complete pelleted feed they will be fine. It sounds to me like her bun had Mucoid Enteritis. Which you remove all feed for 24 hrs, just give vitamin/electrolyte water, and some tetracycline in its water, also give probios. after 24 hrs give a small amount of Timothy hay and about a TBS of oats, the kind u eat is fine. After that and their poo becomes normal start giving pellets back in small amounts until they are eating and pooing normal again. One of my rabbits got it from a show.

Yeah thats one of the things I don't like about rabbit.org. they are full of bad information that can hurt the rabbit. They don't need all that stuff.

thank you for all your input everyone. next bunny will have a different diet than my poor little lily billy nilly had. i will leave the fruits out and limit the vegies. i used to feed her carots with the greens on still. she LOOOOOVED those. i hadn't bought them for awhile because i am unemployed and the packages of baby carots were "cheaper" my mom says. i think she just wanted to save room in the fridge. she only got fruits and vegies once a week. it was to try to get her into her cage sometimes when she wouldn't go back in lol. she hated to be in her cage lol. my new bunny i will train to be tame and to be held and maybe even sleep in bed with me lol. lily slept in bed with me her last few nights and it was so cute. she hopped in on her own. i prolly already said that before lol. but she never really liked to be cuddled and never wanted to sleep with me.
