HELP...I think this might not be my first egg...

This is the egg I seen being laid
It's definitely small. Really hoping this was the first one.

Looks like a first'ish egg for sure.
They sound like they need more protein, when they hit POL it takes a lot to keep them going.
They're using much more than when they were simply growing.
Give those ladies some meat. :)

What should I give them, and how often? Every day for the next week or so?

Just any price freindly meat, cooked of course. You can used canned stuff like chicken, tuna, etc.
To boost them into their new laying bodies i'd give them a small amount at least every other day.
Give it a week or two and see if they're still as ravenous.:)

Ok, thanks. They eat well. Always free feed, and they never empty out the feeder.
The reason I say they attacked the fake egg I placed in the coop is because anything new they shy away from and really look it over before cautiously pecking at it.

Something familiar like cucumbers, there's no hesitation. That's why I'm thinking they knew what the egg was.

They probably did know, that is why I reccomended a protein boost eggs have tons.
New layers that for whatever reason aren't consuming enough will reclaim the egg like crazy.

So I put some tuna on a plate. Placed it in the middle of the run, and you would have thought I put a fox in there, lol.

Took them about 15 minutes to get the courage to peck at it. One would grab a piece and fling it. Once it hit the ground, it was fair game and they would chase each other around trying to get the piece.

Went back to look about 20 min later, and it was gone.

Haha! They got over the fear pretty quickly! :lau
Chickens are funny things!
