I think it might be better to wait for juvenile feathers for any decisive guesses.I’ve been trying to figure out what color our new baby chick is… mom hen is the white silkie and the Roo is a Silver Birchen Silkie. Could our chick be a Smoky or Grey color? He doesn’t look black like the Roo did when he was a chick. Any thoughts?
Probably not conforming to any standard of perfection once matured.Any thoughts?
Thanks for the ideas. Our Roo isn’t going anywhere as the Silkies are family pets. Maybe my daughter will want to show the hen one day. It’s good to know baby coloring and n thinking ahead…Probably not conforming to any standard of perfection once matured.
The chicken color calculator say birchen sire cross white dame will equal black chicks.. males having silver neck leakage and females having yellow or golden necks once mature... the second drop down tab for the calculator is in English..

Posting a question to this poster (nicalandia) is a good way to get direct answers genetically speaking..

Birchen is also not an accepted Silkie color as far as I know. Here is a link with some of the most common including some (but not all) of the "project" colors..

Cute baby... currently just black.
It will be interesting for sure. Our Roo that we raised from chick only grew in the silver feathers around 1 1/2 years. Thanks for your thoughts! Not 100% sure on the coloring. Since it's parents were white and silver birchen, it's not going to be a true color. Like white to white or black to black. The chick looks to be a smokey black color but when it starts to get more feathers in later, other colors may show up. Maybe even some white from the mom or other colors from the dad.
