Quince fruit is usually cooked before it is eaten, it is very high in pectin, and was used in jellies because of that. You can find recipes on-line though, with a more contemporary spin, used in fruit salads and as flavoring for meats and other dishes. It is possible that it has few fruit just because of not enough water during the fruiting period. This would be true of any type fruit. Quince fruit does not soften as it ripens, just turns a deeper yellow. If it gets soft, it is rotten... (or cooked) http://www.gourmed.com/recipes/quick/quince-pork

Thanks for linking those recipes but I'm not going to eat this fruit because of its location. The previous owners let their dogs use the porch as a lawn (i.e. urinated and defecated on the porch). The mess was simply shoveled off and onto this bush. That's just too gross for me! :sick

Sooo,:confused: you're eating eggs that come out of a hens butt but you can't eat fruit from a plant that has been exposed to natural, organic fertilizer? Illogical, but not judging really, everyone has their own eeww! factors I guess. Not me, I cleaned out my dog kennel after winter and dumped it in the garden where it is helping to grow beautiful tomatoes and I am eating them! Yum!

Yes I agree, everyone does have their own eww factor. Because this bush was "showered" with feces and urine, makes it gross and unsafe. To me, it's completely different than composted manure used in the garden.

Well, only you can know what it looked like when you first bought the property, perhaps it's best under the circumstance that you dig it up and give it away, since possibly you will always see it as it was initially. But, that's a decision for you to make, of course. Too bad, though.
