Male orbweavers are much smaller and thinner than females and are typically not colored as the spider in the pic (they are usually brown and few species grow to that size). Males also have two bulbous appendages (pedipalps) extending from near their mouth (not completely clear from the pic). Finally, most male orbweavers in temperate zones are long dead at this point in the year. The group of spiders yours comes from is very diverse and it often requires a key to identify the species. They are good to have around!
