Help identify my beautiful lady?

Hi there,
I was gifted this hen last year by someone who could no longer care for her, but she didn't know the breed, and even my vet couldn't identify her. Can someone help? Thanks!

looks like a cochin mix...also looks like she has some very bad leg mites as well

So the fat legs means she has mites? We treat the hen-house regularly and haven't seen any mites. Do they live in the legs without getting out and about in the hen-house? And is there an effective natural treatment?

I'm trying to treat mites myself. This forum is so full of advice, all you need to do is type in mites and you'll get a variety of answers that should help. I'm told that it is an uphill battle to get them under control. I've been using DE ever since I've had chickens and got them anyway. Going to get seven 5% tomorrow and start dusting and shaking! Good luck to you. Oh, be sure to treat coop also.

leg mites live under the scales on the legs and you cant just dust them to get rid of them. search this site for good sources on hoe to get rid of them, i think you can soak them in vegetable oil if i remember right.

i find that seven works the best although its off label

The only luck I had in getting rid of scaly leg mites was to use ivermectin pour on and then coat the legs in a thick layer of bag balm. I then used sevin dust and dusted the entire coop making sure to get into any/all cracks and crevices where the little critters love to live. I tried vasoline and just the bag balm...it just didn't seem to work...but, the ivermectin got rid of them much easier and faster.

for leg mite I use dish soap, just put on the legs every other day for a while. But just fat legs could mean an older bird as well can you get a shot of just her legs?
