I received this chick from an acquaintance who claims he got it from a chicken factory and told me it's an egg laying chicken. This fella is 6 weeks and it is kinda looking bare, the other chicken (grey) is an olive egger who's 1 week older. Would anyone happen to know this white fellas breed?

Strong suspicion that's a meat bird but not Cornish cross. Maybe a white ranger?
That's unfortunate, I'll keep her longer, if she has major health issues I'll have to give her away :'(

Rangers don't have the same health issues as Cornish cross and they will lay eggs, they are just not efficient for that purpose. And the olive egger.is male..If you were looking for layers, you didn't do so well with these two

I figured he was male, he started growing his wattle at 3-4weeks. I am not looking for layers fortunately, they are just solely pets. I was just concerned about her health issues as I heard it is not ethical to keep cornish cross beyond 8 weeks.

Oh, I didn't know that. Why is that?

Oh, I didn't know that. Why is that?
From what I read, because they are bred specifically for meat so they grow so rapidly within 8 weeks that they tend to have severe health issues from it therefore they don't live long beyond that. They also get so heavy their legs can't support their weight and so they can be immobile which causes more issues on topnof that. It is possible to keep them as pets beyond that but it requires a experienced and skilful people which is not me as I am a total newbie and have no idea what I'm doing, hence why I go on forums to learn and ask questions 😄
