Hi all,
I'm new to chickens, and quite inexperienced. We've had our two girls since they were itty and were set they were pullets once they began to feather.

We have one definite pullet, "Ducky", who is a Splash Orphington *brought from a breeder near us.
This is her @ roughly 7 weeks (4th January)

And her now @ roughly 5 months (5th April)

And our mystery girl, Dinky, we got from a friend yet we have no clue where she came from or what she is.
This is her @ roughly 4 weeks*we were told (30th December)

And her now @ just under 5 months (5th April)
There is no crowing, but she has started looking, in my opinion, like a cockeral. Very flighty also despite constant handling and less inclined to approach unlike our other girl who follows the food.

An ideas on breed or gender? Please and thanks.

We don't mind either way on 5 acres (our neighbors rooster crows), but curious to know. Both are housed overnight in individual dog kennels, so their free range day starts at 7-8AM depending on when we wake and let them out.

I need to see a better picture of your Orpington but from what I can tell you have 2 cockerels.

Oh really? That'd be a little bit disappointing. Neither of them crow, so we initially thought definite pullets.

This is the best up close I have of her at the moment, as once Dinky runs usually Ducky follows.

And a few others I'm not sure if they'll help or not.

I can try to get more this evening if needed when they come up to roost before we crate them.

@chickenenthusiasts5698 - here's a few this morning, I tried to get a few before letting Dinky out also, but she didn't like the being alone and wouldn't sit still (relies on Dinky to lead everywhere)

This is the best I could get, hopefully they are helpful enough~

Here's also the parent birds - all image credits and rights to the breeder and owner.

So, we've confirmed that Dinky is most definitely a Cockeral as he has begun to crow of a morning, very partial and only at 6.30AM.

And Ducky is definitely a Pullet as she clucks and talks quite a lot (noises Dinky never makes), and Dinky has become extremely protective of her, ie he will try chase our toddler if she approaches Ducky for pats, and chases us to peck our legs (We are working on correcting these behaviours).

Fingers crossed for eggs soon as both are roughly 5 months old now.
